Houbara Bustard Nest Discovered in Jordan Thanks to IFHC and RSCN Conservation Efforts

Abu Dhabi, 15 May 2016: Field teams from the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in Jordan (RSCN) have spotted for the first time a nest belonging to a Houbara bustard following the release of Asian Houbara between 2014 – 2016 under the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Houbara Reintroduction Project. The initiative is managed by the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC), under the direction of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of the IFHC board.

IFHC Gathers Support for its Cause at ADIHEX

Abu Dhabi, 12 September 2015: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation, which participated at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX), was pleased to welcome members of the ruling political elite, falconry community and public to its stand as part of the four day event, in what was a show of force for its global conservation efforts.

IFHC Announces Annual Breeding Figures at ADIHEX 2015

Abu Dhabi, 09 September 2015: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC), part of Abu Dhabi government, has released its latest Houbara breeding figures for 2015 to date, at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX). The conservation program has bred a total of 48,213 Houbara this year as part of its captive breeding and release program, which aims to reinstate wild Houbara to healthy numbers worldwide. The number is up on previous years, with just over 46,000 bred across the whole of 2014. Download

IFHC Hosts Workshops to Raise Awareness of Houbara Conservation Among Falconers

Abu Dhabi, 10 September 2015: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) will be hosting presentations for the UAE’s falconer community during its participation at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX). Designed to raise awareness of it activities to conserve the vulnerable Houbara bustard species among its key stakeholder community, the presentations will address key issues such as upholding traditional falconry practices and respecting protected areas, in a bid to ensure protection of the species.

IFHC Celebrates World Migratory Bird Day

Abu Dhabi, 09.05.2015: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) celebrated World Migratory Bird Day with a big bash this year at its Head Office in Al Mamoura, Abu Dhabi. The event saw IFHC employees, school students from across Abu Dhabi and key stakeholders, including staff from the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, gather for a morning of activities designed to raise awareness of the plight of migratory birds across the globe. First Chick of the Season Named ‘Frekhan’

Abu Dhabi, 18 March 2015: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) announced the winner of its ‘Name the Chick’ campaign today. Submitted by 9-year-old Khaled Ali Abdulla from Future Academy School in Al Ain, ‘Frekhan’ was selected by the Fund as the name for the less than one month old baby Houbara – the first captive bred chick to hatch this season.

IFHC Champions Sustainability at the International Falconry Festival

Abu Dhabi, 10 December 2014: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) will participate at the Third International Falconry Festival (IFF), a gathering of hundreds of falconers, exhibitors and performers from around the world. Appearing at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort from December 11 to December 13, IFHC will put its holistic conservation programme on display in order to educate the global falconry community on the importance of reviving the Houbara bustard to sustainable numbers. IFHC Honours UAE Flag Day at Abu Dhabi Headquarters

Abu Dhabi, 3rd November 2014: The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) paid tribute to Flag Day and the United Arab Emirates today by raising the nation’s flag at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. A symbol of unity, Flag Day commemorates the anniversary of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s accession as President of the UAE and honours the country’s heritage and future. The support of the President has been vital to the Fund, which carries on the inspiring legacy of his father, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Three out of Four Hunters Say Sustainable Hunting is Key for Houbara Survival

Abu Dhabi, 4 February 2014: Attendees to the Third International Falconry Festival (IFF) overwhelmingly agreed that falconers are ultimately responsible for conserving the Houbara bustard, the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) reports. In a survey conducted by the Fund during the event, a definitive 74 per cent of participants agreed that falconers should practice sustainable hunting to ensure wild Houbara thrive for generations to come.
